John Okafor alias Mr Ibu was born on 17th of October in 1961 in Enugu State of Nigeria. He died on 2nd of March 2024 at the age of 62 years 4 months.

He studied his primary and secondary education in local schools and was admitted at Yola Collage of Education but he dropped out due to school fees. He did casual jobs to save enough money to enroll himself at Institute of Management and Technology in Enugu for a degree.

His star would shine about six years later after he played a role in the popular Mr Ibu in 2004. Here, he played the role of a father to a stubborn son and Osita Iheme was the son. This became a sensational movie within Nigeria and beyond.
