Kuppet threatens to recall their members from the ongoing KSCE examinations, citing intimidation

The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) has threatened to recall all their members who are currently marking the KCSE 2024 examinations, citing allegedly intimidation.

Kuppet officials led by Siaya branch Executive Secretary Mr. Sam Opondo, claimed that the teachers who are currently marking the examinations were allegedly being humiliated and intimidated by the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

This comes amidst reports of a section of teachers from selected institutions being ejected from marking centers on grounds that their schools were involved in exam irregularities.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Kuppet Siaya branch offices in Siaya town, Mr. Opondo stated that at least 20 teachers from Siaya County have been subjected to such maltreatment and forced out of the ongoing marking exercise.

The branch Executive Secretary called on all the KUPPET members who are at the marking centers to stand up and protest against the humiliation of their members, saying that they may be forced to recall their members unless things change.

He challenged KNEC to investigate and come up with a proper report on exam malpractice instead of blanket condemnation arguing that some of the affected teachers were not even in school during exams period and can therefore not be punished for any irregularities in their respective schools.

The sentiments were echoed by his deputy Mr. Patrick Omondi who also castigated KNEC for the alleged humiliation of their members, and demanded that the affected teachers should be compensated.

The Union has also condemned some unscrupulous KNEC officials who have allegedly stated to blackmail school principals by demanding for money from them under guise of helping them to get good results.
