Laikipia Revenue Board Suspended Over Sex Allegations

Laikipia County governor Joshua Irungu has suspended Laikipia revenue board over sex allegations and bribery claims on the recent recruitment exercises of revenue collectors.

Speaking after a meeting with over 230 revenue collectors that have been reinstated, the governor condemned the acts and said that investigations are ongoing to ensure those involved take responsibility.

Irungu warned that those found culpable shall be held accountable since investigations into the matter had kicked off including removal from office and facing charges accordingly.

The county government has reinstated 230 revenue collectors and hired 20 new collectors to replace 20 that have been fired over disciplinary issues bringing the total number of those employed to 250.

The county government had cancelled the job offers of the 250 vacancies advertised in September this year after the expiry of the contract of the first cohort hired in October last year.

Over 4,000 people had submitted their application for the few slots that later were marred by illegalities.

On November 20,2024, Laikipia Members of County Assembly led by Thingithu ward legislator tabled a motion to disband the seven members local revenue board which they claimed was unfit to run office over extortion and sex scandal to the job seekers.

The MCAs alleged that job seekers in the revenue board were asked between Sh60, 000 to Sh80, 000 for each job offer that they were to be paid less than Sh20,000 per month.
