Religion arguably remains one of the most complex aspect of human life in history. The complexity comes out due to how hard it is to know what is required of one as far as religion is concerned.
There are many forms of relions worldwide especially in the post colonial era which eroded African forms of relion which were basically nature-based. Christianity remains one of the largest religion in the world but the most complicated to understand as there are several sects and denominations within Christianity.
Understanding the roots of Christianity will take us back to the times of missionaries who came and left us their way of worship. Bible was introduced and belief about Jesus Christ was taught. Also, unlike traditional religious practices where every community had their own being which they believed in, Christianity came with reference to a single and one being, God.
That aside, main topic of interest is why women remain the main and easy target for destructive religious practices? First things first, when you visit any place that is used as a worship place by any church, you will definitely find more women than men.
In the recent cases of rogue pastors who are encouraging religious enslavery you will find women and children being the casualties. The Shakahola cult in Kilifi County of Kenya had more women than men as victims. Another case was of an Akurino ‘pastor’ named Johanna who was filmed apparently ‘delivering’ a woman.
This woman is said to had gone to a witchdoctor who ‘made’ her attractive to me making her take other women’s husbands. She was therefore taken to Johanna to cleanse and deliver her.
In the trending video, the pastor is seen doing some unthinkable acts on the woman smearing some unknown oil on her especially her thighs and massaging her stomach. This went for a long time as he also sprinkles her with some water. At some point the pastor who was aware of the video recording is seen signaling the person recording to not show what would be going on next. At this point it is not known what he was doing on her. Women are quite easy to believe anything they are told while ignoring any warning they might be told. This makes the fake pastors to take advantage of them. Another possible reason is that women tend to be scared of hell such that they will do anything as long as they are promised of going to eternal life.
