Wildlife National Census Phase 2 Launch Targeting 65,000Km Sq in the 6 counties of the Northern Country.

National Government has today Launched the second phase of National Census of Animals, Targeting 65,000Km Sq in the 6 counties of the Northern Country. The activity is being done by Worldlife Research and Training Institute together with 10 other partners.

Speaking at Shaba, in Isiolo County CS World life and Tourism Rebecca Miano has said Since the last Census in 2021 there has been severe draught and Floods that severely affected wildlife and this Census is very critical in Directing the Government in Policy Making, and Setting Mitigation Measures in future.

Worldlife Research and Training Institute (WRTI) which is the Mandated Institute to carry the census has said from the Preliminary Findings from the first phase of the Census Carried this Year in Mara, Amboseli and Magadi Zone shows 29% Elephant Increase and a Decline in Buffalo Population.

WRTI has added that they are using the Latest Technology of Mapping and Counting the Animals by ensuring they Track every area simultaneously using the 7 choppers Launched today. The data is then Immediately Sent to the data Centre located at Shaba for tabulation and analysis.
